The best puppy shampoo in India is a mild, pH-balanced, lightly scented shampoo that is labelled for puppies and used only from the age on the label. For the most-reviewed puppy shampoo, Himalaya Erina Puppy Shampoo & Conditioner. For a tear-free formula, earthbath Ultra-Mild Puppy Shampoo. For a gentle shampoo a puppy can keep using as an adult dog, a sensitive-skin formula with no synthetic fragrance. And for very young puppies, often no shampoo at all: a damp cloth and your vet’s advice.
How we put this list together: we looked at the top results for “puppy shampoo” on Amazon.in, checked on 18 October 2026, and grouped the popular shampoos by what a puppy actually needs. We describe each one by what its own label and listing say; we did not lab-test any of them.

When can a puppy have its first bath?
Most vets suggest waiting until a puppy is at least eight weeks old, and many shampoos are labelled for puppies from 12 weeks. Until then, a puppy can’t regulate its body temperature well, and a damp cloth on the dirty bits is usually all it needs.
Always check the minimum age on the shampoo label, and ask your vet if your puppy is very young, unwell, recently vaccinated or underweight. Our guide to your puppy’s first bath covers the timing in detail.
What makes puppy skin different
- Thinner, more sensitive skin that dries and irritates more easily than an adult dog’s.
- Faces close to everything. Puppies wriggle, and shampoo gets near the eyes.
- Sensitive noses. A heavy perfume can make the first bath more stressful.
- First impressions. A cold, rushed or stinging bath can make a dog wary of grooming for years.
So for a puppy, “best” means mild above all: gentle cleansers, a balanced pH, a light scent, and a formula you’d be comfortable using on delicate skin.
Ratings tell you what sells. The label tells you what’s inside.
A puppy shampoo with hundreds of ratings tells you many people bought it. It doesn’t tell you what your puppy’s thin skin will meet. That is on the label: the cleansers, the preservative, the fragrance and the minimum age. So for every pick, we read the label as well as the reviews.
1. Most-reviewed Indian puppy shampoo: Himalaya Erina Puppy Shampoo & Conditioner
A 200 ml puppy shampoo and conditioner from Himalaya with more than 800 ratings, the most-reviewed puppy-specific shampoo from an Indian brand on Amazon.in.
2. Best tear-free: earthbath Ultra-Mild Puppy Shampoo
An imported, extra-gentle and tearless puppy shampoo with more than 1,100 ratings at 4.7 stars. The listing describes it as natural and cruelty-free.
3. Best gentle shampoo from puppy to adult: Furrytail Gentle Daily Shampoo
Most puppy shampoos are made for a few months of life. Gentle Daily Shampoo is made to be gentle enough for a puppy from 12 weeks and stay right for the dog it grows into, so bath time smells and feels the same from the first bath to the hundredth. What the carton says:
- Sensitive-skin formulation, pH-balanced and vet consulted.
- Cleansed with amino acids. Amino acid-derived surfactants clean without stripping delicate skin.
- No synthetic fragrance. The scent is IFRA-compliant and stays close to the coat, gentle on a young nose.
- Preserved with probiotics, with no parabens, no MIT and no synthetic preservatives.
- 99.5% natural origin (ISO 16128-2), with the full ingredient list on the carton.
- The softest scent for a puppy: Violet Leaf & Muslin.
Good to know: use it for puppies over 12 weeks, and consult your vet for younger puppies. It lathers less than you may expect; one gentle pass is often enough for a small puppy. Keep it away from the eyes, as with any shampoo.
Best for: puppies from 12 weeks, sensitive skin, and owners who want one gentle shampoo for life.
4. An imported puppy formula: Wahl Puppy Shampoo
A 300 ml puppy shampoo from Wahl with more than 350 ratings.

How to give a puppy its first bath
- Get everything ready first: shampoo, a jug, two towels, a non-slip mat and treats.
- Use a shallow basin of lukewarm water, a few centimetres deep, in a warm room.
- Wet the body only, pouring water gently from a jug. Keep the face dry; wipe it with a damp cloth.
- Use a small amount of shampoo and lather gently with your fingers.
- Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
- Dry completely with a towel in a warm room. Puppies get cold quickly.
- Reward and keep it short. Five calm minutes beats twenty stressful ones.
Our verdict: the puppy shampoo we’d choose
The puppy shampoos at the top of this list are popular for good reason. But a puppy becomes a dog within months, and the shampoo that matters is the one gentle enough for a puppy’s skin that you’ll keep using for years, so bath time stays familiar.
Here is the checklist we’d use, and how Furrytail Gentle Daily Shampoo measures up:
| What to look for | Why it matters for a puppy | Furrytail Gentle Daily Shampoo |
|---|---|---|
| A clear minimum age | Very young puppies shouldn’t be bathed with shampoo | For puppies over 12 weeks; vet for younger |
| Sensitive-skin, pH-balanced | Puppy skin is thin and delicate | Sensitive-skin, pH-balanced formulation |
| Gentle cleansers | No stripping, no stinging | Amino acid-derived surfactants, no sulphates |
| No synthetic fragrance | Gentle on a young nose | No synthetic fragrance; IFRA-compliant, skin-close scent |
| Kind preservation | Delicate skin deserves care | Probiotic preserved; no parabens, MIT or synthetic preservatives |
| Grows with the dog | Bath time stays familiar for life | The same shampoo from 12 weeks to adulthood |
The puppy-specific favourites win on reviews. But read the labels side by side, and Gentle Daily is the one built to tick every line of this checklist. For a puppy from 12 weeks, Gentle Daily Shampoo in Violet Leaf & Muslin is the one we’d choose.
